Singapore’s equatorial climate presents a massive logistical challenge for grain storage. With year-round ambient temperatures hovering around 30°C and relative humidity routinely exceeding 80%, poorly processed rice will succumb to fungal blooms, rapid deterioration, and massive weevil emergence within weeks of arriving at a Jurong or Tuas warehouse. Draba Ventures deploys highly engineered environmental controls to guarantee maximum shelf life.
Pre-Loading Moisture Stabilization
The first line of defense is executed at the Indian mill. Moisture is the catalyst for both fungal growth and insect eggs. We enforce a stringent optical drying protocol, dropping the internal grain moisture content strictly below 12%. By starving the cargo of ambient water activity, the grains remain dormant and stable, completely neutralizing the threat of deterioration during transit and local storage.
Silica Desiccants and Residue-Free Fumigation
To combat condensation buildup inside the shipping container (often called "container rain") caused by temperature differentials during the oceanic voyage, we suspend industrial silica desiccants throughout the load. Additionally, the cargo undergoes rigorous, residue-free pre-shipment fumigation. The rice is then packed in multi-layer, food-grade woven polypropylene (WPP) bags with optional vacuum-sealing capabilities to create a hermetic barrier against warehouse humidity in Singapore.
| Storage Risk Variable | Standard Commodity Handling | Draba Ventures Engineering Control |
|---|---|---|
| Grain Moisture Content | 14% to 15% (High fungal risk) | Strictly ≤ 12% (Stable & safe) |
| Container Condensation | Ignored (Leads to top-tier mold) | Industrial Silica Desiccant placement |
| Warehouse Humidity (80%+) | Porous PP Bags (Allows moisture in) | Multi-layer food-grade WPP / Vacuum sealed |
